Meet Our Caretakers and Storytellers —How to Reach Us
Meet Nana Root
Nana Root is a traditional herbalist, oral historian, plant companion, and wandering caretaker of the Emporium shelves. Her practice centers on intergenerational wisdom, domestic herbalism, and the preservation of folkloric and practical herbal applications. Her work resists commodification and emphasizes community care over performance. She is known for speaking kindly to tinctures, misplacing carefully gathered notes, and brewing insight with a touch of story.
She does not hold formal institutional ties, though her contributions have been cited informally across grassroots archives, family records, and community notes passed hand to hand. She is also fondly remembered by trees, apprentices, and the occasional unsettled spirit. She claims to have been taught by plants and old songs. Some say she’s older than she looks. Others say she’s not quite from here. She says nothing.
Nana Root does not publish regularly, but when she does, it is with intention. She believes most things worth knowing take time, and most things written down should have been remembered first.
Meet E.H. Bellgrave
E.H. Bellgrave is a botanical researcher and independent archivist with a sustained focus on toxic and medicinal flora, historical ethnobotany, and the misuse of marginalia. Their work emphasizes primary source preservation, pre-modern herbals, and the unintended consequences of folk remedies. Bellgrave does not enjoy public commentary but contributes frequently under protest.
Previous affiliations include the Western Society of Apothecaries (defunct), their remaining notes are housed in private collections and occasionally cited in disciplinary reviews.
No current academic post is recorded.
Other former institutional affiliations are no longer accepting correspondence. Their recent fieldwork remains unpublished by mutual agreement. E.H. Bellgrave is currently not seeking funding.
The Staff
The Emporium Staff is a rotating, often-unsupervised assortment of assistants, interns, and archivally adjacent personnel tasked with recording inventory, transcribing note, and occasionally posting things that were left unfinished. Their contributions are practical in nature and have been approved (or at least tolerated) by senior caretakers.
This team prefers anonymity and works best when unobserved. Comments, corrections, and conflicting footnotes should be directed to someone else. They do not have titles. They do have deadlines.
